Post Re: Brake Systems
Thank you guys for this section !!!.
My brother just bought his 79 / 928. We drive the car from Houston, Tx to Hidalgo, Texas. We did the customs clearance in Reynosa, México.
Actually he is restoring the car: Paint- job ( racing blue ), upholstery, etc.
But we have a braking problem, the car refuses to stop correctly. First, I discovered that the right front disc was bended so we correct that problem, the pads seems to be in good shape, also the master brake cilinder, but the car still don´t stop !!!.

Any helpfull idea ????.

kind regards.

Jano.

Beautiful color! Have you replaced the (ALL) Brake Fluid? If not, this needs to be done. When you are bleeding the system (pushing on brake pedal from inside) are you getting fluid at the caliper (open bleeder valve)? If not, your Master Cylinder is bad. A bad brake booster will mean just a hard pedal but the brakes will still work.

Just throwing this out there, but no vacuum leak's between the primary vacuum line from manifold/split/like to Break booster has been confirmed right? thats a big 3 way line and a crack/leak in any of it id imagine could be a huge factor.

A break in that vac line would not only keep the car from running good (most likely stumble and die), but would only affect the booster. Which means it would be hard pedal to stop but the brakes would still function.

Thank you Leo,
seems that the boster is ok.
We have pushed the brake pedal and it bleeds correctly the brake fluid.
There must be something else, maybe different pads. which pads would you recomend ?.

Best regards.

jano.

Nope, pads that have some meat (material) still on them should stop fine. I think your Calipers are not pushing them correctly.
