Post New member saying Hello!
Hi there, I've just bought my first 928, a 1987 S4 which I'm quite pleased with but I think I may be needing a little help and advice as I go along sorting a few niggles out so I thought I'd join the forum. I think I may need all the free advice I can get as I'm going to be running this on a budget so a lot of the work will have to be done by myself!

Welcome to the board!

Actually - I just joined at the end of the year so I'm new here too and have only had my 1985 928S since August 2011 and am also on a shoe string budget, hence why I've joined here too. Look forward to seeing some pictures of your S4. Attached below is my new pride a joy.

Welcome to the board! We will certainly help you with your S4. Most of us have the early version, but for the most part they are similar. The big difference is that your 928 is an Interference Motor. If you have done a Timing Belt/Water Pump then this should be first on your short list.

I got the car just before Christmas and the first thing I had to do was get it roadworthy and pass it's MOT. It's now MOT'd and is booked in to the garage tomorrow for a full cambelt/waterpump service. I know it's going to be costly but, at least I know it's done then and I'll feel slightly more confident in driving it!

Wow, deep pockets. You know it's not a difficult job to do. I've done two already on my Euro and S. Get an estimate, I am sure the parts will be less than 1/3rd of that.

Can someone supply all the info I need to do the change? If I can get good info, I'll do it myself!

Mike - I just realized from your profile that you are from Cornwall, UK....... I am originally from the UK and lived in Devon, near Exeter and frequently visited beaches in Cornwall as a kid - Widemouth Bay, Millock Haven etc. So, small world eh! I've been in the US since 1998 and am now a US Citizen. You're a brave man having these exotic cars in england with the price of fuel and insurance the way it is over there (how bad is the insurance btw?) - anyway, my hat is off to you my fellow Englishman! :)

The insurance isn't too bad (I'm 42!) but the fuel is a killer, it's around £1.40 a litre at the moment so, as you can imagine, driving a 5.0 V8 in an expensive hobby.

It must be nice owning a manual 928, I've never seen one in the flesh over here.

Well, I'm sure insurance is still expensive at 42 compared to here, and the cost of gas over there is out of this world. We complain about gas prices and it's only $3.50/gal (or about £0.55/litre).......I'm 35 and have classic plates on my 928 so it's dirt cheap for comprehensive insurance - ($110/yr!) with a 5,000 mile/yr limit which is no big deal. The 5-speed is great fun and was a lucky find because they are quite rare here too - especially in a black on black. I have a short shifter which is a big improvement on the stock shifter. Here is the interior of mine...
