Post ticket problems.
Dear friends,

Does anyone knows how to look in internet for a traffic ticket ???. I don´t have the ticket number nor my car have a plates...Let me explain.
I am trying to register my 928 in Mexico, all the paper work have been done, but I have been told that I can´t continue with the procedure because the car have a transit ticket in Portland... The custom officer told me they found these just by follow the VIN number in the traffic system, which sounds to me as a lie to get some money.
My car have been stored in a warehouse in Mexico city since 1991, I just purchase the car last year, but the car have been without plates for 20 years.
I have the property title which is from Texas and the import bill of lading, but that´s it.

Does anyone knows how to look for this traffic tickets in internet with just the Vin number ?, as I don´t know the previous plate register.
Does the goverment store those tickets for so many years ?.
how can I know how much I owe ?.
I think that this custom officer is trying to steal at me, because all this sounds absurd to me !!!.

I am very sad to know that this things still happen in my country.

I have been restoring my 928 for a year, it have been a hard and gratifying work and it would be a shame to throw it all that to the waste basket !.

Hope that some of you can help me by answering my questions, so that I can decide how to proceed with these situation.

Kind regards.

Jano.

I would contact Portland, Oregon Police or Highway Patrol and find out if this is all true. And if it is, what is the procedure to take care this.

http://www.portlandonline.com/police/

http://www.oregon.gov/OSP/

Then you can move on. I would try and get proof that the issue is then taken cared of.

Surprised you were able to import a 928 into Mexico. I think the new law only allow cars that are 10 years old, and previously the car had to be on an approved list. Before we were married my wife bought a Saturn and was unable to import it because it was not on the list. Fortunately we were able to flip it for a quick profit and move on.

I know at that time the only non-American car that was on the approved list to import into Mexico was Volkswagen.

Is it Mexican or US customs that's telling you about a ticket in Oregon?

The new law was made to protect the Mexican car industry, because too many people were bringing very old cars, must of them in a very bad shape, with too many mechanical problems. So this law says that you can bring back to Mexico a car that has a maximum of 10 years old and that the 80% of their parts has been made in North America (Mexico included )... because of the NAFTA. That´s why VW are one of the few European cars on that list ( all american Volkswagen are made in México )
The old law, which is the one applied to my Porsche ( because the car has been in Mexico for more than 20 years), permits all kind of work vehicles like pick up trucks, and sports cars.

The custom Officer is from Mexico, but it seems that is a corruption matter. Yesterday I check in the Oregon and Portland web page for tickets and traffic and the result was that my car does not had any ticket.

I will try to speak to this guy and try to make him understand that this must be an error or a mistake..... The Mexican custom what the hell cares if the car has or has not a ticket in the United States, I mean is not a big deal !!!!.

Well thank you guys for your posts, and wish me luck.
I´ll keep you posted.

Kind regards.

Jano.

I could get the "Classic car plates" which in México city aloud the car not to get into the polution and control of emissions (because the old injection system that the 928 has).

Now I can use my car.
